Configuring Devices and Extensions for SRG Operation

SRG-Capable Device Configuration

E-MetroTel XStim and Nortel/Avaya Unistim IP phones

No special configuration is required for E-MetroTel XStim and Nortel/Avaya Unistim IP phones that are to be used in the survivable mode. These phones should be configured according to the section Configure Nortel IP Phones. Both server entries (S1 and S2 values) must be configured with the IP address of the UCx at the branch office that is being configured for use as an SRG.

If both the Main Office (MO) and the Branch Office (SRG) are UCx servers, configure the Nortel IP phones with the same extension number, password and features on both servers.

Nortel and E-MetroTel Digital Phones via a DSM16

Nortel/Avaya digital phones connected via the DSM16 (16 port Digital Station Module) as supported in standard UCx deployments are also supported within the SRG environment.  Although the individual sets do not get programmed with S1 and S2 server entries in the same manner as above for XStim and Unistim IP telephones, the DSM16 itself would be configured with the S1/S2 address of the UCx server at the branch office that is being configured for use as an SRG.

If both the Main Office (MO) and the Branch Office (SRG) are UCx servers, configure the Nortel/Avaya digital phones with the same extension number, password and features on both servers.

Refer to the DSM16 - Gateway Configuration: Call Server page for instructions on how to configure the S1/S2 addresses on the DSM16.

SRG-Capable Extension Configuration

All SRG-capable phones are associated with the Nortel Phones extension programming.

By default, all such Nortel Phones are configured to operate in Normal Mode (i.e., registered with the main office server) when the SRG Mode is enabled. You can use the Survivability Options section of the Edit Nortel Device configuration page to

  • Change the default configuration to force certain phones to operate in Local Mode (registered with the UCx SRG)
  • Specify the main office terminal number and node ID of the phone (if the MO is a CS1000 server)

To configure survivability options for a specific SRG-capable exten, perform the following steps:

  1. Open the UCx Web-based Configuration Utility
  2. From the PBX tab, select PBX Configuration
  3. From the left side column, select Nortel Phones
  4. From the list of extensions on the right side, select the extension that you want to configure
  5. Scroll down to locate the Survivability Options section of the configuration page
  6. In the SRG Mode field, select the mode in which the phone will operate when the SRG Mode is enabled (Normal or  Local Always)
  7. If the MO is a CS1000 server and the SRG Mode selected is Normal
    • Enter the terminal number assigned to the phone on the main office CS1000 server in the Main Office TN field
    • Enter the node ID on the main office CS1000 server in the Main Office Node ID field
  8. If the MO is a UCx server, the Main Office TN and Main Office Node ID fields can be left blank.
  9. Press the Submit Changes button to save the configuration
