Configuring Integrated Router for BCM50

If your BCM50 system has an integrated router (i.e., if you have BCM50a, BCM50ba, BCM50e or BCM50be hardware), you should start the configuration of your BCM based UCx Digital Gateway with the router configuration.

By default, the DHCP server on the integrated router is enabled. If you already have a DHCP server enabled on your local area network (LAN), you should disable the DHCP server on the BCM50 integrated router in order to prevent hard to diagnose conflicts when two DHCP servers run on the same LAN (especially when they use the same or overlapping ranges of managed IP addresses).

When using UCx software on a BCM50 with an integrated router, you have two options:

  1. Limit the use of the integrated router only to the 3 additional LAN ports (the DHCP server on the integrated router disabled and the WAN port not connected)
  2. Use the integrated router to connect to WAN and/or to run the DHCP server for your local area network (the DHCP server on the integrated router enabled and/or the WAN port connected)

To use your BCM system with the integrated router used only for 3 additional LAN ports, you should:

  • Set the IP address used by the integrated router for the LAN side of the network to an address that does not conflict with devices on your LAN
  • Disable the DHCP server on the integrated router

To use your BCM system with an integrated router for your WAN connection and/or as your DHCP server, you should:

  • Configure the WAN connection
  • Set the LAN side IP address of the integrated router
  • Enable the DHCP server on the LAN side of the integrated router
  • Configure the range of IP addresses that are to be managed by the DHCP server

To access the Web-based Configuration Utility of the BCM50 integrated router to configure the IP address of the router and the DHCP server, perform the following steps:

  • If the DHCP server on the integrated router is enabled, configure a network interface on your PC to use DHCP. If the DHCP server on the integrated router is disabled, configure a network interface on your PC to use an IP address from the same network subnet as the IP address of the integrated router.
  • Connect the configured network interface of your PC to one of the LAN ports of the integrated router (three ports in the top row on the right side of the BCM50 face plate).
  • Open your browser and enter the IP address of the integrated router (default is 192.168.1.1). The login screen is displayed.

  • Use the configured password to log in (the default password is admin). The main menu of the Web-based Configuration Utility is displayed.

  • From the left side column, select Main Menu - LAN
  • Configure the desired state of the DHCP server in the DHCP Setup section of the page
  • Configure the IP address of the integrated router and the subnet mask in the LAN TCP/IP section of the page
  • Press the Apply button to save the router configuration.
