Create a bootable USB drive for installing UCx Server software

Prerequisites

  • A USB device at least 2GB in size or larger connected to the same PC
  • The E-MetroTel UCx Server software image zip file downloaded to the same Linux or Windows system.
To obtain the software image, within 48 hours of download, please create a support ticket with the following information:
  • The five digit UCX_ASSET number identification
  • Public IP Address for download
    • Must provide the public IP address from where the UCX software image is to be downloaded
    • If unsure of the public IP address, enter this URL in the browser:  http://repo.uc-x.org/ip/myip.php 
  • UCx software image installation date, if available

Procedure for Linux

  1. Copy the ZIP file with the USB image to the Linux system (e.g., UCx6.0_USB_GA1.zip)
  2. Extract the image file from the ZIP file
    unzip UCx6.0_USB_GA1.zip
  3. Remove the ZIP file (which is no longer needed)
    rm -f UCx6.0_USB_GA1.zip
  4. Insert the target USB device to a USB port on the Linux system
  5. Use the command "fdisk -l" to find out what the USB device ID is (e.g., /dev/sdb)
  6. Copy the image to the USB drive
    dd bs=4MB if=UCx6.0_USB_GA1.img of=/dev/sdb
  7. Remove the USB device from the Linux system
  8. Note: if you want to provide more free space on the USB drive, you can grow the partition created on the USB device using "parted /dev/sdb" (the resize command)
  9. The USB device is now ready to be used for imaging UCX Servers

Procedure for Windows

  1. Win32 Disk Imager program installed and operational on a PC
    (the program can be downloaded here: http://sourceforge.net/projects/win32diskimager/files/latest/download?source=files )
  2. Extract the image file from the ZIP file provided (e.g. UCx6.0_USB_GA1.zip).
  3. Insert the target USB device to a USB port on the Windows system
  4. Locate and right click on the Win32DiskImager program to Run as administrator.
  5. In the Image File field, browse and select the E-MetroTel UCX Server software image file (e.g. UCx6.0_USB_GA1.img)
  6. In the Device field, ensure the correct USB device is selected.
  7. Press the Write button and a confirmation dialog box will be displayed.
  8. Verify you have the correct image file and device drive then press the Yes button to continue.
  9. The program will proceed to write to the USB device, allow the process to complete.
  10. A Complete dialog box will be displayed when the operation has completed successfully.
  11. Eject the USB device to allow safe removal
  12. Remove the USB device from the Windows system
  13. The USB device is now ready to be used for imaging UCx Servers.
