Introduction

The D715 is designed to provide the professional worker with the best in high-speed connectivity combined with high-quality audio. The integral Gigabit switch provides future proofing and, combined with the USB port, enables high levels of flexibility and functionality. The USB port can connect a USB headset, a D7 expansion module or WiFi.

Featuring a four-line black and white graphical display, the D715 also has four context sensitive keys, an intuitive, user-friendly menu and five programmable keys with built-in LEDs for visual call indication. It supports four SIP identities. Dual stack IPv4 / IPv6 ensures future proofing. The D715’s combination of features and affordability makes it an ideal endpoint for service providers and larger scale installations.

Configuration

WARNING: E-MetroTel has been successful in creating interoperability with the referenced phone using our open SIP Standards implementation. E-MetroTel is not responsible for maintaining interoperability support should the manufacturer modify the behavior of their SIP implementation in subsequent releases.

STEP ONE: On the UCx Server

  1. Login to the UCx Web-based Configuration Utility
  2. Navigate to PBX - PBX Configuration - Extensions page
  3. Add an Extension for a Generic SIP Device with the following basic parameters:
    • User Extension (e.g. 631)
    • Display Name
    • secret
  4. Click on Submit to create the extension
  5. Press the Apply Config bar at the top

STEP TWO: On the D715 Phone

Snom phones are plug-and-play. Once the phone is connected to the network, it will begin to initialize. Follow the instructions on the phone to complete the initialization.

If your network is setup for DHCP, the IP address assigned to the phone will be displayed during initialization, take note of the IP address. If a DHCP server is not found, you will be prompted to enter the IP address, netmask, gateway, and DNS server.

After initialization is complete, you will be prompted to register the first account. You can register the first account from the phone interface or you can proceed directly to STEP THREE to configure the phone via the web interface.

To register from the phone, enter the following information when prompted:

  1. For account number, enter the User Extension from Step One.
  2. For registrar, enter the IP address of the UCx server.
  3. For password, enter the secret from Step One.
  4. After successful registration you will see the phone symbol  and the registered account (identity) in the identity line underneath the date/time bar.

STEP THREE: Configuration via Web Interface

To access the phone's web interface, you will need to know the IP address of the phone.

  1. You can look up the phone's IP address from the phone by pressing: Settin > 6 (Information) > 2 (System Info).
  2. From a web browser, enter the IP address.
  3. You can configure up to 4 identities (lines). For each identity, configure the following fields:
    • Displayname - Enter preferred display name
    • Account - Enter the user extension from Step One
    • Password - Enter the secret from Step One
    • Registrar - Enter IP address of the UCx Server
    • Authentication Username - Enter user extension from Step One
    • Mailbox - If voicemail is enabled for the extension in Step One, enter the user extension

  4. Click on the Apply button at the bottom of the page, followed by the Save button at the top of the page to save the changes for each identity.
  5. After successful registration you will see the phone symbol  and the registered account (identity) in the identity line underneath the date/time bar on the phone.
