IPv6 Considerations
Since its formal "launch" in 2012, IPv6 deployment and adoption has been hard to predict. Therefore, E‑MetroTel understands that enterprise customers are planning for their own network evolution and for the evolution of their service providers networks, particularly as it relates to IPv6. Even the US Government is transitioning to IPv6 according to Memorandum M-21-07.
For most E-MetroTel customers the two primary applications that need to operate in an IPv6 environment are:
SIP trunk interfaces
Currently, we are not aware of commercial SIP Trunk providers providing SIP over IPv6. However, the deploying the UCX with a Session Border Controller/Router (SBC/Router) configuration will allow all UCX related SIP messaging to be able to communicate outbound over an IPv6 network.
In an end-to-end IPv6 network, the SBC/Router interface will be able to send SIP via IPv6 packets through the customer network to their router and on to the service provider or far end.
In a hybrid network scenario, the SBC/Router interface will be able to send IPv6 messages through the customer IPv6 network where the customer dual-stack router will be required to communicate with the legacy service provider network.
Web-based configuration management
Web based configuration management is generally performed from a PC that is either connected locally on the customer network or remotely across the service provider network. The Web-based Configuration Manager interface can be opened on a browser using either the IPv4 or IPv6 address assigned on the UCX network interface(s).
