MG - UCX Server Configuration

License and Software Packages

The MDSE module to support M1/CS1000 Media Gateway(s) is a licensed feature. Addition of the MDSE module allows integration of Nortel  M1/CS1000 Taurus and Aries series digital phones.

The support for analog phones is a separate licensed feature (MA) on top of the MDSE license.

Installing MDSE and Analog Set Support License

  1. Open the UCx Web-based Configuration Utility
  2. From the System tab, select Licenses
  3. From the left side column, select Enter License
  4. Copy the entire license string provided by E-MetroTel in the License String field and press the Save button to activate the license.

Media Gateway(s)

Configuring New Media Gateway On UCx Server

Perform the following steps to configure the Media Gateway on the UCx server:

  1. Open the UCx Web-based Configuration Utility.
  2. From the PBX tab, select MDSE.
  3. Select New Media Gateway to add the MGC.
  4. Enter the MGC configuration values.
  5. There are two new fields from Release 6.0 and up:
    • Remote Gateway - When set to No, the External IP Address field is disabled. When set to Yes, the External IP Address field is enabled.
    • External IP Address - This field is required when enabled.

From Release 6.0 and up, the MGC can be located remotely from the UCx Server. In the case of a remote MGC, set the Remote Gateway field to Yes and enter the External IP address of the remote MGC.
  6. Press the Submit button to save.

Attention

DNS Configuration:

The UCx systems DNS must be configured correctly before configuring an MGC card, see the Network configuration page. Be sure that one of the following conditions apply, otherwise the MGC will not work properly:

  1. If the UCx system has internet access, then the DNS and Default Gateway must have VALID IP addresses. This must be validated before attempting to configure an MGC card.
  2. If the UCx system does not have internet access, DO NOT program any IP Address in the DNS field,  only program the Default Gateway IP address.

Modify Existing Media Gateway On UCx Server

Perform the following steps to change an existing Media Gateway on the UCx server:

  1. Open the UCx Web-based Configuration Utility.
  2. From the PBX tab, select MDSE.
  3. Press the Edit button corresponding to the Media Gateway to modify.
  4. Update the MGC configuration values.

Firewall

This section lists the TCP and UDP ports used for communication between the UCx and the MGC. If there is a Firewall enabled on your network, firewall rules need to allow communication with the ports listed here.

At the MGC Location

The following ports need to be forwarded from the external IP address of the MGC site to the internal MGC IP addresses (i.e. Ingress from the Internet) for MGC registration, signaling and voice path setup:
