Nortel Norstar/BCM Digital Phones

In order to use Norstar/BCM digital phones with UCx Server, these phones must be connected to the UCx Digital Gateway. The UCx Digital Gateway can be configured to communicate with a specific UCx Server using its Web-based Configuration Utility. This UCx Server configuration applies to all Nortel digital phones connected to the UCx Digital Gateway.

Step One: Configure Digital Gateway to communicate with UCx Server

To specify the UCx Server to which UCx Digital Gateway is connected, perform the following steps:

  1. In your Internet browser, enter the IP address of the UCx Digital Gateway (192.168.1.175 if the default IP address is used) to open the UCx Digital Gateway's Web-based Configuration Utility.
  2. From the Digital Gateway tab, select Gateway Configuration
  3. In the UCx Server IP field, enter the IP address of the UCx Server
  4. If the UCx Server does not use the default port number for Nortel phones (7000), enter the port number in the Port field
  5. Press the Save Changes button to update the configuration of the UCx Digital Gateway

Step Two: Connect phones to the Digital Gateway

Refer to the Digital Gateway Wiring Chart for wiring information on the RJ-21 telephony connector. You can connect 12 Nortel digital telephones to the RJ-21 telephony connector on the system's main unit.

Refer to the Digital Gateway Expansion Wiring Chart for wiring information on the Digital Gateway Expansion unit. you can connect 16 Nortel digital telephones to each of the two RJ-21 telephony connectors on the expansion unit.

Step Three: Configure the phones

Refer to the Relocation page for details on configuring the options to identify Nortel digital phones connected to the Digital Gateway.
