The current release of UCX supports system recordings in the GSM and wave formats.  The UCX system uses wave files that are PCM encoded (or equivalent CCITT u-law encoded), with 16 bit samples, 8 kHz sample rate and mono channel settings.  If you upload a wave file in a different format, the file is automatically converted to this format. Note that if your recording file does not play correctlyyou may need to convert to a .WAV file with an external audio file converter prior to upload.

Beginning in UCX Release 7.0, the maximum supported size of a file that can be uploaded is 1 GB; for UCX Release 6.0 and early the maximum is 20 MB.

Create a recording from multiple files

A system recording can consist of one or more files (either uploaded files or system prompt files installed on the system).  Initially, a new system recording uses a single file, you can edit a system recording to combine multiple files in one system recording.

For example, you could use standard English system prompts combined with your own custom files to create an IVR menu.  The following System Recordings page shows an example of a system recording that combines multiple files to create a simple IVR menu.

Create the Recording

To create a system recording based on system prompts, perform the following steps:

  1. Click on Built-in Recordings on the top right-hand corner of the page
  2. Click on the button with the name of the file and select your desired file from the drop-down list OR you can enter the first few letters of the file to filter the list (e.g. type en/ for English system prompts or custom/ for recordings you had created previously)
  3. Click on the Go button and a new system recording will be created with the selected file
  4. Enter an appropriate name for the recording in the Change Name field
  5. Select another file under the Files section
  6. Click on the Save button and the new recording will be created
  7. If you want to add more files, select the recording again from the top right-hand corner and repeat steps 5 and 6

Playback the Recording

To listen to the system recording:

  1. Create an Announcement to play the recording
  2. Create a Misc Application to access the announcement via a feature code
  3. From any phone connected to the UCX system, dial the feature code (*678 in the example above)
