From Outage to Opportunity: Real Results with the E-MetroTel Crash Kit

No one expects their phone system to fail in the middle of business hours. But when it happens, every minute without service creates real consequences: missed calls, lost orders, and frustrated customers. In those moments, the difference between hours of panic and a fast recovery comes down to one thing:

Preparation.

That’s exactly what happened in a story from our Quebec Sales Leader, François Leblanc, who recently used his Crash Kit to rescue a customer whose legacy phone system had suddenly gone offline.

A Legacy System Fails with No Quick Replacement Available

The customer’s entire phone system went down without warning. The mainboard had failed, taking every phone offline. Because the system was older and licensed to that specific hardware, there was no quick swap or replacement available.

System downtime before François arrived: approximately 2 hours

With phones ringing into a dead system, the customer needed help immediately. Traditional replacement hardware would take time – time they didn’t have.

A Crash Kit in the Car Makes All the Difference

Fortunately, François always keeps his Crash Kit with him.

“I had my Crash Kit in my car, so I went to the customer site and installed and programmed it,” he said.

Inside the Crash Kit was everything needed to restore service on the spot:

  • FXO8 card for analog lines
  • DSM16 card for digital phones
  • Cabling and essentials for fast deployment

Because his SIP trunk was already registered in the kit, restoration was fast and clean.

Time to get calls flowing again: about 1 hour

“It would have been less if Bell had been faster to forward calls from their main number to my E-MetroTel DID,” François added with a smile.

Better Performance Than Before

Even though this was a temporary emergency setup, the customer immediately noticed improvements:

Faster provisioning
Easier programming
Support for existing digital phones
Instant access to the Infinity 3065 softphone

And the call quality?

“The customer had the same or better experience with 15 of our SIP trunks than with 23 of the Bell PRI,” said François. “And the pricing on our trunks is way lower, so he’s switching.”

A Crisis Turns into a Bigger Opportunity

Once the emergency was handled, the customer made a bigger decision:

  • They ordered cards and licenses
  • And they plan to convert five more locations to E-MetroTel

“The customer was really happy with the short time it took to be back in service,” said François. “He told me he has five other sites, so the Crash Kit opened up a lot of new opportunities!”

Why Every Partner Should Have a Crash Kit

François sums it up perfectly:

“Invest in a Crash Kit and keep it with you!”

His Crash Kit also doubles as his demo kit:

“I can show customers live that it works with their phones, it’s simple, and it works.”

For partners, the Crash Kit is more than an emergency tool – it’s a business accelerator:

Restore outages in hours, not days
Prove UCX works in real environments
Support analog, digital, and SIP scenarios
Convert emergency fixes into long-term relationships
Create immediate trust and credibility

Be Ready When It Matters Most

System failures aren’t predictable. But the response can be.

When partners like François show up with a Crash Kit and restore service in an hour, customers remember it. And in many cases, those emergency saves lead to full system upgrades and multi-site opportunities.

If you’d like to build or purchase a Crash Kit for your team, contact your E-MetroTel representative or distributor. A small investment can turn a bad day into your best sales tool.
